The project:
Il overall project will allow the use of waterways for freight purposes through two logistic platforms: the Ferrara river port and the Portogaribaldi port.
The waterway will be connected to a tunnel that will be built along the SS 309 Romea National Road, to reconcile the huge traffic load requirements along this main road with the needs stemming from the waterway regeneration process.

Timing:
The project has already been partially developed: upon the inauguration of the facilities in “Biconca” di Pontelagoscuro, 5th class vessels are allowed to cross the Po River and to reach Ferrara, up to 3 km from the historical centre, close to the Chemical Pole. Both the waterway and the tunnel projects are now about to be completed and the necessary bidding authorisation procedures are already in place for them to be finalised by the end of 2004.
